Lamatu is a farmer from Dupari, a village located in the Upper West Region of Ghana. Most people in Dupari are farmers who grow yams, corn, peanuts, millett and sorghum. The farmers bring their products to the town of Bulenga, which is three miles from Dupari, to sell them on the market. There is no public transportation between Bulenga and Dupari. Most people walk from Dupari to Bulenga and back. Often they carry heavy loads.
Thanks to your donation, Lamatu received a bicycle and was taught how to take care of it. She says, “I want to ride my bicycle to go to my farm and then to take crops to my house and to the market.” Her farmland is 4 km from her house. It takes her almost an hour to walk each way and she can only carry a few products home from the fields. Owning a bike will make Lamatu’s life easier, more productive and give her more time to care for her family.
Lamatu is very thankful for your donation, Joelle! Thank you for your support of Village Bicycle Project!
