Yakub Nahim is a student from the village of Dupari, located in the Upper West Region of Ghana. His family and most people in Dupari are farmers and they take their produce to Bulenga for sale, 5 km away. There is no public transportation between Bulenga and Dupari, so most people walk and carry their produce to the market. There is only a grade school in Dupari, so students must go to Bulenga or beyond to go to middle or high school.
Yakub is a student at Gorpie Junior High School, about 10 km from Dupari. Thanks to your donation, Yakub received a bicycle and learned how to take care of it! He is very excited to use the bicycle to get to and from school because now he can stay in Dupari with his immediate family instead of living with relatives in a town 5km from his school. He is happy to not have to walk anymore, too, and he thinks he will be less tired at school after biking 10km than after walking 5 km like he used to do.
Owning a bike gives him more time to study, will increase his attendance at school, and enable him to live with his parents.
Yakub is very thankful for your donation, Robert ! Thank you for your support of Village Bicycle Project!
