Yelkong’s bicycle will help her save time and do better in school!

Dear Doug and Robin,

Yelkong is a 20 year old student from the village Tuggo, located in the Upper West Region of Ghana, 10 miles southeast of the town Jirapa. Most people in Tuggo are farmers or brew pito, a traditional beverage from this area. There is no reliable public transportation from Tuggo to Jirapa or neighboring towns. Without a bicycle, people living in Tuggo have to walk everywhere they go or they will wait by the side of the road and flag down a passing car. Village Bicycle Project held a workshop in Tuggo and 19 women received bicycles. The women will use their bicycles to travel back and forth from neighboring markets in Babile (2 miles away) and Jirapa (10 miles away).

Thanks to your donation, Yelkong received a bicycle and was taught how to take care of it. Yelkong attends Tuggo Primary School. She will use her bike to go to school and come home quickly, allowing her more time for homework and helping her family with their farm. Yelkong also will ride her bike to the markets in Babile and Jirapa. Owning a bike will make Yelkong’s life much easier, and improve her school performance.

Yelkong is very thankful for your donation, Doug and Robin! Thank you for your support of Village Bicycle Project!
