Alu-la is a subsistence farmer who lives in Kandiga, a village in rural northern Ghana. Thanks to your donation, Alu-la received a bicycle and was taught how to take care of it. She uses the bike to go to her family’s farm, which is six miles away. The family grows food six months out of the year, during which they will use the bike. They will then let their son use the bike the other six months to get to school quickly and more often. Most students have many morning chores at home, such as feeding animals and hauling water, and it makes it hard for them to get to school on time. Alu-la said, “My husband had a bicycle but I did not know how to ride it. I never thought I could ride but now I can! My husband could ride places, but I had to walk everywhere!” Owning a bike will save Alu-la’s family time, money and help them all to be more productive.
Alu-la is very thankful for your donation, Jeffrey! Thanks for your support of the Village Bicycle Project!
