Emmanuel is so happy to ride instead of walk!
posted April 16, 2011

Emmanuel lives in a farming village in southern Ghana. The village is at the end of a rough road, with about 2000 residents. Five or six mini-buses make the round trip daily to the coast highway, but the area is very rural, and travel is difficult. Thanks to your donation, Emmanuel received a bike and was taught how to take care of it.
Emmanuel is 12 years old and will use his bike to ride to the family farm, 3 km. away, where they grow sugar cane. He will also ride his new bike to school. Without a bike, he had to walk hours every day in the hot sun. His mother bought him the bike and has big plans for Emmanuel to do the family errands on the bike. Emmanuel is excited because he likes to ride and work on bikes. Owning a bike saves time and energy for Emmanuel and his family, and makes life a lot more productive!
Emmanuel is very thankful for your donation, Lisa! Thank you, for your support of the Village Bicycle Project!

Amakiyima is thrilled to ride her bike instead of walking long distances in the hot sun!
posted April 12, 2011

Amakiyima lives in Kandiga, a village in rural northern Ghana. She is a farmer and a shea butter merchant. Thanks to your donation, Amakiyima received a bicycle and was taught how to take care of it.
Amakiyima uses her bike to go to the larger market towns in her area, which are between 5 and 11 miles away! Using the bike she can carry four times as many nuts used to make Shea butter, which will increase her production and sales. Owning a bike allows Amakiyima to ride to town instead walking or paying private transport fees, which are quite expensive in Ghana because there is no public transportation. Riding a bike will save their family time and money, and increase their productivity.

Garee will use the bike to increase her family income!
posted April 8, 2011

Garee lives in Kandiga, a remote village in rural northern Ghana. Thanks to your donation, Garee received a bicycle and was taught how to take care of it.
Garee will use her bike to improve her business selling Patasi, a beverage she makes and sells at community events. When she is not using the bike, she shares it with her son who can ride to school 3 miles away. Using a bike allows her son to do the household chores he is responsible for, and still arrive at school on time. The teachers are very strict, and punish students who are late. The boy has more time for homework, and for helping his family. Garee laughs, “We now make more money, and we use some of the money to pay off school fees and some to put into our stomach!” Owning a bike will save Garee and her family many hours every week, and will help them be more productive and successful.
Garee is very thankful for your donation, Laurent! Thanks for your support of the Village Bicycle Project!
