Akongzeriba and her son save a lot of time with their bike!
posted March 20, 2011

Akongzeriba lives in Kandiga, a village in rural northern Ghana. She is a farmer, and her son is a teacher. Akongzeriba will share the bike with her son. Their farmland and the school are both several miles from their home.
Thanks to your donation, Akongzeriba received a bicycle and was taught how to take care of it.
Akongzeriba and her son use the bike to go to work, go shopping and to get to their farmland. They purchased a cargo rack for their bike. Now they can easily carry all the things that were tough for them to carry when they had no bicycle. They will use the bike to carry produce from the land they farm and deliver it to the Kandiga market.
In rural Africa, most people walk everywhere they go. Owning a bike saves time and money, and makes life a lot more productive! Akongzeriba said, “The bicycle helps a lot. Because before we walk to many places on foot, so it has helped a lot!”
Akongzeriba is very thankful for your donation, Lesley! Thanks for your support of the Village Bicycle Project!

Ayetiboh and her son love their new bike!
posted March 20, 2011

Ayetiboh lives in Kandiga, a village in rural northern Ghana. She is a homemaker, farmer, and community activist. Thanks to your donation, Ayetiboh received a bicycle and was taught how to take care of it.
Ayetiboh uses her bike to run errands in the town, about a mile away from home. Now she can carry her goods back to her home on the bike, instead of carrying them on her head while walking.
On every school day Ayetiboh lends her bike to her 15 year old son, who is a good student. Riding the bike allows him to get to school on time every day. Most students have many morning chores at home, such as feeding animals and hauling water, and it makes it hard from them to get to school promptly. Ayetiboh said “Now my son can get to school quickly. Because he is not spending as much time walking, he helps me to fetch water to make porridge to sell.” Owning a bike will save Ayetiboh’s family time, money and help them all be more productive.

Anoriyelem uses the bike to get to the land on which the family farms and to the market several miles away. Sometimes she lets her children use the bicycle to ride to school. Children in rural Africa have many morning chores, like feeding animals, hauling water, and helping in other ways. The teachers are very strict, and punish students who arrive late. Owning a bike allows students to get their chores done, and still arrive to school on time. It also allows them to get home quickly, and have more time for homework. Anoriyelem’s daughter says “Now if I go to school I can get there early and I can go fast! Riding the bike is so much better than walking!” Owning a bike will save Anoriyelem and her family many hours every week and help them be more productive.

Adiya uses her bike to attend important events for her family!
posted March 16, 2011

Adiya lives in Kandiga, a village in rural northern Ghana. Thanks to your donation, Adiya received a bicycle and was taught how to take care of it.
Adiya uses her bicycle to get to the land on which she farms with her family and to the market several miles away. She will also use her bike to attend the women’s community association meetings, which provide good information on health issues, and on how to take care of home and family. “It is important to go to meetings to share ideas on how to give advice to our children so they grow good, and how to live with our husbands so there are no problems,” she says. “The bicycle helps me go to the meeting because I can then go straight to the farm [afterwards].” Before Adiya had the bike she was not able to attend many meetings. It took too much time away from the time she could spend working on their farmland or in the household.
Owning a bike will save Adiya many hours every week, and allow her to attend events that are important for her and her family.
Adiya is very thankful for your donation, Klinton! Thanks for your support of the Village Bicycle Project!
