Village Bicycle Project, in coordination with Peace Corps Volunteers assigned to isolated villages, hold bike repair workshops, and offer subsidized bicycles to the participants.  Our Ghanaian partners, George Aidoo and Samson Ayine, bring bicycles from the capitol city of Accra to the villages by truck.  Twenty participants in each repair workshop spend a day with George or Samson learning how to care for their new bike, including fixing flat tires, oiling and caring for the chain, adjusting brakes and learning how to assess for problems. At the end of the day, people take their bikes home with them. We also leave specialized bike tools in each village, so people can make any needed repairs. We empower whole communities by including women and girls in bicycle education. People with bikes get to schools, markets, farms and health care in one-fourth the time, improving their lives and economic futures.  We know a bicycle can make all the difference.
