Azumah will increase her income and save time with her bike!
posted January 28, 2011

Azumah lives near Kandiga, a village in rural northern Ghana. She is a merchant who buys rubber buckets in the major town, about 10 miles away, and sells them in Kandiga. Thanks to your donation, Azumah received a bicycle and was taught how to take care of it.
Azumah uses her bike to ride to the crossroads, about 5 miles away, where she catches a private taxi to get to the main city, about 11 miles away. She can carry her buckets back to her house on the bike, instead of carrying them while walking. She also lends her bike to her 15 year old son, who is good student. Most students have many morning chores at home, such as feeding animals and hauling water, which makes it hard for them to get to school promptly. Riding the bike allows him to get to school on time every day. Azumah says, “The bicycle has helped us a lot because my son gets to school on time, and I save money and time.” Owning a bike will save Azumah’s family time and money, and help them all to be more productive.
Azumah is very thankful for your donation, UBS-GC! Thanks for your support of the Village Bicycle Project!

Awigke lives in Kandiga, a village in rural northern Ghana. She is a farmer and a shea butter producer and merchant. Thanks to your donation, Awigke received a bicycle and was taught how to take care of it. Awigke uses her bike to go to the larger market towns in her area, which are between 5 and 11 miles away! Awigke’s son will also use the bike to get to school. She says, “I walk sometimes to save my son time so he can be in school and do his school work very well!” Riding a bike will save their family time and money, and increase their productivity and opportunity.

We can go to another town for church or to attend a funeral.” The bike saves them time and money, and allows them to get around their region easily.
