posted April 10, 2012

Maxwell Nketia is from Bodaa, Ghana, on the western boarder next to Cote D’Ivoire. Most people in this town of about 1000 people are farmers, and the soil is fairly good there. People in Bodaa walk most places they go, and waste valuable time getting places they need to go. Thanks to your donation, Maxwell received a bicycle and was taught how to take care of it.
Maxwell is a 52 year old cocoa and cashew farmer. His farm is 2 km away, but now he says he will ride to his farm in comfort! With the help of the bike, Maxwell can now more easily get to the farm and back, and still have time to work around his house. He is very happy to have a bike and know how to make repairs. Owning a bike saves time and energy for Maxwell, and makes life a lot more productive!
Maxwell is very thankful for your donation, Ramesh! Thanks for your support of the Village Bicycle Project!

Bicycles changes lives!
posted February 13, 2012

Nyobok and Nkunzesi are two remote communities in the Talensi/Nabdam district of the Upper East Region of northern Ghana. These communities are located in the Savannah zone of the country. Nyobok-Nkunzesi and their nearby smaller communities have a population of about 2000.They are among the poorest communities in Ghana. Their only source of income is subsistence farming. The community’s biggest strength is the operation of the Ghana Rural Opportunities for Women (Project GROW). Some of the beneficiaries of GROW are engaged in petty trading. Public amenities are inadequate. There is only one primary school for children up to are 12. Older children have to walk about seven to ten kilometres to attend school.
Thanks to your donation, ten women from Project GROW attended a one day workshop on bike mainanance and repair, and each participant received a bicycle.
Bicycles are life changing for these women as they facilitate travelling for economic ventures, a source of ambulance for the sick to hospital, and a means of transport for children to school and to their farms. The participants in the workshop are farmers, seamstresses, students, and one public health nurse.
All of the women thank you, Elizabeth. Thanks for your support of the Village Bicycle Project!
